Party Smokies
One of my aunts (who makes the most wonderful food ever) gave me this recipe after one of our traditional Christmas Eve Parties. I think I ate at least a couple dozen of these. This is another appetizer that I always bring with me now. Thanks auntie :)
1 pound sliced bacon, cut into thirds
1 (14 ounce) package beef cocktail wieners (For GF, just double check these. You never know when gluten will be slipped in)
3/4 cup brown sugar, or to taste
1-Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F
2-Refrigerate 2/3 of the bacon until needed. It is easier to wrap the wieners with cold bacon.
3-Wrap each cocktail wiener with a piece of bacon and secure with a toothpick. Place on a large baking sheet.
4- Sprinkle brown sugar generously over all.
5- Bake for 40 minutes in the preheated oven, until the sugar is bubbly. To serve, place the wieners in a slow cooker and keep on the low setting.
**Randi's Side Notes**
~ When I bake these I just line them up in a glass baking dish. It seems to make it so the brown sugar doesn't get burned as easily and keeps it nice and juicy.

Thanks for this recipe! I made them the other night for a birthday/appetizer party. I was requested to bring them again for a Super Bowl party. I did have a problem with my sugar not melting but just stayed on top of each wrap. I eventually sprayed a little water on it but do you have any better suggestions?
ReplyDeleteHmmm mine normally melts pretty good, but something you could do when they are cooking is try to get some of the juices from the bottom and pour it over the top of the brown sugar that isn't melting. Hope that helps!
