This recipe brings up so many fantastic memories for me. My dad took over the job of making fresh granola, and even now makes a new batch every couple of weeks. The thing I love about granola is that you only need a little amount to make you feel full! This is one thing I definitely miss about living at home. For some reason it just tastes better knowing that my dad made it, not that it doesn't taste exactly the same it just had that extra bit of love in it I guess.
I love having homemade granola around. Number one because you can really throw anything you like in it and it will usually taste pretty good and two because it makes a great addition to plain old yogurt in the morning.
1/2 cup bran
1 cup sugar
10 cups old fashioned oats
1 cup powdered milk
1 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup sunflower seeds (shelled)
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 cup walnuts
1 cup soy bean flour
2 tsp. salt
Mix all dry ingredients together.
1/4 cup maple syrup
1 cup oil
2/3 cup water
2 tsp. vanilla
Then combine wet ingredients and pour over dry mixture. Put in the microwave for 15 minutes in (make sure you use a microwave safe dish, a glass one works great). When done, spread the mixture out on a cookie sheets to cool. Store in an air tight container.
**Randi's Side Notes**
~ This stuff will actually store just as long as any normal cereal you buy from the store. Obviously the sooner you eat it the better but it will be fine for even a few weeks if needed. But I doubt it will last that long to be honest because its so good.
